What is this app?
Maskey is a codename-first, zero-knowledge password vault. The everyday interface shows only codenames; real passwords and accounts are revealed on demand. All data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, with keys derived via Argon2id, and stored only on your own devices. It works fully offline with no account required. We can never see your data.
FAQ
Q: I forgot my master password. What now? The passphrase recovery code (Emergency Kit) generated when you created your vault is your backup key. Open the app, choose Recover with recovery code on the unlock screen, enter the passphrase in order, then unlock and reset your master password. Keep your recovery code offline, such as written on paper and stored safely.
Q: I lost the recovery code too. Can you recover my data? No. Zero-knowledge means only you can decrypt your data. We have no backdoor or backup that can restore it. That is exactly what makes it secure. Please safeguard your recovery code.
Q: How do I move my data to a new phone?
- With iCloud encrypted backup: sign in to the same iCloud on the new device, install Maskey, and unlock with your master password or recovery code.
- With self-hosted sync: enter your server address on the new device and unlock to sync.
- Or export an encrypted file on the old device and import it on the new one.
Q: Where is my data stored? Can you see it? Your data lives only on your devices, and optionally in your own iCloud or self-hosted server. Even when a server relays sync, it only sees encrypted ciphertext and cannot decrypt it.
Q: Do you support AutoFill or one-time codes (TOTP)? Built-in TOTP one-time codes are supported. System-level AutoFill rolls out progressively by version; refer to your installed version.
Q: How do I delete my data? All data is local. Deleting the app removes on-device data. If iCloud backup is enabled, delete the corresponding backup in iCloud settings. For self-hosting, delete the vault file on your server.
Q: Why does the UI only show codenames? This is the core design: shoulder-surf protection. Screen, history, and clipboard default to codenames; real values require biometric confirmation and the clipboard auto-clears after 30 seconds.
